I made some more progress on this painting today. I still have alot of work to do on the wooden parts of the instruments, the strings and some random parts. Let me know what you think so far.
Joy, this is coming along very nicely. I reall like it. It's very accomplished and sophisticated. The composition is interesting but I think the flashes of light thrown across the instruments are what really make it. Overall it has a paternal feel, father and child somehow, the former leading the way.
Perhaps a little more colour in the background might work well? Only nuances of colour, to lift the grey a little?
I can't wait to see the finished piece, have fun with it!
New name...same paintings. Most of my pieces will be done in oil paints. Some of my offerings are color pencil paintings Why do I call it a painting if it is a color pencil drawing? Because, it is done in layers with the color pencil and then using mineral spirits to spread out the color with a brush or swab giving it a washed effect, more like watercolor than color pencils.
If anyone is interested in learning to do art the way I do it, I have a series of "HOW TO" Dvds for sale at http://www.stepbystepdvds.com/ . I also will be adding a members site that will include all kinds of art tips, tricks, videos and more, soon.
I am an artist and a writer. My first book, Carrie and Hope was published April 2011, followed by Emily's Art and Soul in June 2011. I have been creating art since I was a small child, but the writing is a more recent passion. I am glad you are taking this artist journey with me.

OH man, I agree with Caroline, it is very accomplished!
I love looking at the tiles! I love them, all cool feeling...I think they make it so interesting and I see them first.I'm partial to stone and mosaic.
Then I see the earthy wood instruments, and study them, it's like a treat!
You are amazing. How you can capture such color and realism...I love the little specs of highlights here and there...wonderful!
I'm such a fan of your work!
